Interior design
Scandinavia is famous for its innovative interior designs, and the Volvo S80 epitomises elegant Scandinavian luxury.
The interior of the car has a clear focus on exclusivity and comfort. The soft, cosseting leather seats with matching stitching are accompanied by door panels echoing the same trim. The super-slim floating centre stack is upgraded with a Silk Metal frame that enhances its luxury feel, while simultaneously creating a design link to the Volvo XC60.
The instruments in the new Volvo S80 feature aluminum dials and Volvo is also launching a new generation of steering wheel. The décor trim with Silk Matte metal-effect finish on the four-spoke steering wheel is also found in the gear selector and around the starter button.
"The new S80 should not just be seen, it has to be experienced. The atmosphere inside is both more comfortable and luxurious. We've also made the interior more driver-oriented, with a new steering wheel and upgraded instruments," says Volvo Cars President and CEO Stephen Odell.
One of the most elegant pieces of interior design is the modern, ultra-slim centre console, similar to the revolutionary design first introduced in its compact Volvo S40 saloon. The handsome console, which appears to float, contains most of the important switches and controls and contributes to the understated, simple interior design, without a plethora of confusing switchgear. The console stretches back to the rear seat and hosts a number of smart functions for storing and connecting accessories, such as an iPod.
"Customers in this segment are often very brand-loyal. In order to appear on the radar of customers currently driving competitor cars, we have to offer something that is extra. We do this by offering exclusiveness and comfort of the absolute top level. In combination with world-leading safety, this makes the new S80 very hard to beat," added Stephen Odell.
Comfort is a priority in Volvo's most luxurious car, which is why the S80 offers a spacious cabin with impressive head, leg and shoulder room both in the front and the rear. The result is one of the most spacious vehicles in the luxury car class.
Volvo has an excellent reputation for seating comfort and the Volvo S80 maintains that tradition. Electrically operated front seats can be upholstered in perforated, heated and ventilated leather. Front seat ventilation is supplied by the car's air conditioning system, and the air flows through the upholstery and seat cushion, reducing any stickiness caused by warm weather. The system also heats the front seats, for chilly days. Heated rear seats are also now available.
